How the Yield Calculation Formulas Work

1. Produce Conversion to Pounds

The calculator first converts the entered produce amount to pounds for consistent calculations:

  • 1 kg = 2.20462 lbs

2. Estimated Yield

Estimated Yield (lbs) = Produce Amount (lbs) × Yield Factor

3. Jar Yield Calculation

Jars Filled = Floor(Estimated Yield (lbs) × 16 oz ÷ Jar Size (oz))

Example: 5 lbs of strawberries (65% yield factor) → 3.25 lbs of jam:

  • Total ounces = 3.25 × 16 = 52 oz
  • Jars of pint size (16 oz) = 52 ÷ 16 = 3 jars, with 4 oz left over

Practical Example
